Fashion Obsession: Feather Extension

I was looking at an online mag that was highlighting feather extension and I thought they were so cute. I am literally on eBay now trying to buy some. But if you buy nice quality ones you can curl your hair and wash it with the feathers in.... WONDERFUL. I will definitely be rocking these next semester.

Song of the Day

My cousin Shannon Ramsey is a phenomenal singer and this is her new music video. Please check it out. I really love this song.

Favorite MLK Quotes

I know I already did the Quote of the Day, but I couldn't get through MLK Day without adding some of my favorite quotes from him.

A man who won't die for something is not fit to live.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fashion Obsession: Thigh Hi's & Knee Hi's

Lately I''ve been obsessed with thigh hi and knee hi stockings. In the winter months they offer a nice alternative to wearing regular stockings or leggins. Both options can be paired with a cute skirt or even fashion winter shorts.

Rachel Zoe Turned Designer

One wonderful thing about the fashion industry is there is plenty of room to jump around, trying your hand at different things. This is exactly what stylist Rachel Zoe is doing as she releases her new fashion collection. The stylist turned designer partnered with Fung & Li to create a collection which embodied her signature style.

Coco Chanel's First TV Interview in French =(

This is allegedly a clip of Coco Chanel's first TV interview. It is filmed in her office and it's in French. I speak a little French, but definitely not enough to keep up with her. Would anyone like to translate for me?

The Dream Isn't Over

Happy Martin Luther King Day everyone. Dr. King gave his life to fight for equality and justice for all people. He had a "DREAM" that one day we would no longer be judged by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character. I challenge everyone to help keep Dr. King's dream alive by making quality choices to ensure that you will be judge by the content of your character. Minority groups (blacks, women, etc.) have come so far and it is only right for us to continue to strive towards totally equality, although it seems sadly that human nature proves that we may never achieve perfect equality in the world.

Dr. King's dream has inspired me over the years to understand how truly beautiful it is to have a goal and work towards it. He has helped to inspire some of my goals and aspirations. Please take some time out today and show reverence for Dr. Martin Luther King.

Song of the Day

I love everything about this song. The soft melody, the message, even the music video. I thought I would share something a little bit different.

Jay Z & Kanye West- H.A.M.

No doubt you've heard Jay-Z and Kanye West's new song "H.A.M." from their new album "Watch The Throne", but did you know that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci is responsible for the single cover. Fashion is popping up everywhere.

Anyways listen to the single below:

Kangol Ain't Just For Hip-Hop

Normally when you think of a Kangol hat you think of old school rappers like LLCoolJ or Run DMC.

Recently Kangol has been branching into different types of hats including a cute summer big floppy hat. These new hats are too cute and I think I might actually grab a Kangol hat for this upcoming summer.

Style Inspiration: Coco Chanel & Pearls

I've always been a huge fan of Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel and her simple chic-ness. Although noted for her simple black dress and white camellia flower, my favorite thing about her look was her signature pearls. Pearls show elegance, class, and daintiness. In today's fashion pearls are often over looked as something one's grandmother would wear. But I love pearls. They help to add a bit of class and polish to any outfit. Coco Chanel is the poster woman for "less is more." Her minimalist style has remained current throughout the ages in the midst of other less successful trends falling in it's wake. She was effortlessly classy.

The fashion icons that have come closes to emulating her fashion style are Michelle Obama, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O.

Quote of the Day

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
-Coco Chanel

American Apparel Back At It

They say "ignorance is bliss," but I don't agree. Every time I see a woman, especially an African American woman tweet that she's about to go shopping at American Apparel I cringe. Not because of the overly priced basics that I could probably pick up at my local thrift shop for pennies, but because of their racist and overly sexualized ads. After filing bankruptcy last fall they are back to their racy porn like ads.

I know the saying, "sex sells." But at what cost? I mean Victoria's Secret sells lingerie more tastefully than this and all American Apparel is selling is a body suit. I wish young girls, young people in general, would look more into the things they buy. Stop always being a consumer and research.

Jay-Z's Interview on OWN

This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen of Jay-Z. He is raw and uncut. His message is straight forward. He is vulnerable and portrays a sense of openness and sincerity. He allows the audience to see inside his head and understand some of the highs and lows of the industry, as well as his life. This interview is a great teacher to anyone striving for success.
