Quote of the Day

"In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different."
- Coco Chanel

I love this quote. Coco Chanel was such a timelessly fashionable woman. Her styles are designs have stayed current over the ages. She is definitely one designer that has yet to be replaced by any new mainstream designer.

"The Black Ivy"

I stress all the time that there is NOTHING like a well dressed man.Period. A well groomed guy could definitely win me over in a heart beat. The dudes from Street Etiquette made a short video to pay homage to the classic style that is found on HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) campuses. I love this. I have found that HBCU's have their own unique sense of style and fashion that marries traditional pop culture with some African American style. I really liked their video and all the guys in this video have impeccable style.

Re-Organized

Sorry I haven't blogged in a few days everybody. I have been uber busy helping get the first issue of the Spokesman out. But I have been having a mid-life crisis all semester because I am utter bored in EVERY SINGLE CLASS this semester. Recently, I finally decided what I want to do with my life and as a political science major I can do these things, but not exactly the way I wanted to.

Soooo.... I decided to change my major to Family and Consumer Science with a concentration in Fashion Merchandising. Since I have already taken a great deal of journalism and political science courses I am just going to make them both my minor. I really want to get a better understanding of the fashion industry and I believe that they best way to do this is to change my major. Wish me luck guys!!

And I went up Goucher College to see my lovelies the other day and we were in the library bored so I took some pics lol.

I love this scarf btw =)

"For Colored Girls"

This is the trailer for Tyler Perry's "For Colored Girls". I am actually really excited about this. We all find Tyler Perry's movies entertaining, but I have found that most of them don't contain much substance. I am just excited to see how he executes this film. It is due to hit theaters Nov. 5th. It has a very interesting cast and I am sure it will be a winner in the box office.

Teen Vogue Fashion University

I definately could not have had a better day. This summer I applied for the Teen Vogue Fashion University, hoping I would get it, but thinking it was a bit of a stretch. I sent in a few pictures of myself in fashionable outfits and links to my blog and other information like that. My two roommates this summer while I was in Georgetown Lauria and Oriana are dolls. They helped me take my pictures for my application. I LOVE those girls.

Anyway, the application said that I would hear back in September if I got accepted. And today I GOT MY EMAIL SAYING I AM ACCEPTED!!

I am practically speechless. Teen Vogue Fashion University is a three day event in New York City hosted by Teen Vogue. You get a chance to meet with some of the greatest fashion designers. You also get to attend workshops and sessions learning in ins and outs of the fashion industry from people who eat, sleep, breathe fashion. I am so excited. As added perks they open a fews stores on Fifth Ave in New York and we get to shop at a discounted rate and receive mini-makeovers. Last year, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Rachel Roy, tons of fashion bloggers, and countless others attended the program.

I am really excited and I know it will be an eye opening experience. I really want to work in the fashion industry and I know this is my opportunity to understand more about the industry.

The only downside is that is is taking place during homecoming week, but in reality who cares?

Here is the link for it: Teen Vogue Fashion University

Needs and Wants

So I am going into my fifth week of classes and as always I am over commiting myself, but I am actually okay with that. I am sorry for my lack of posting lately. The MSU Spokesman Newspaper is getting ready to print its first issue so I have been completely consumed in that, classes, preparing for the organizational fair, and doing some SGA duties. I promise I will be back soon.

I took a few minutes away from creating a brochure to take some pictures because I was getting bored. Anyways, I will be back soon and I will be posting my upcoming articles as well. Chao!!

Kelly Rowland Might Have Her Own Sasha Fierce

Singer/Actress Kelly Rowland is definitely showing us a new side of herself. Maybe she has her own Sasha Fierce alter ego. Her photo shoot in YRB Magazine is HOT. She looks fierce and her body still looks great. Maybe a career in high fashion modeling would be a good look for her.

Quote of the Day

Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth - JFK

This quote says a lot to me. A lot of people want to conform or fit into a box. They strive to be a part of something, a group. Conformity reminds me of "group think", going along to get along. Society puts pressures on people to fit into a particular mold. Eventually we begin to label ourselves. Your the nerd, the jock, the preppy kid, the goth, the skater, the burn out, the artsy kid, whatever. Most of these pre-conceived labels actually stick with people throughout their lifetime. In reality, most people don't fit into a mold. No one really does. It is told to us this is our character or role in life and we attempt to me that standard. I never fit into one mold or character at any point in my life. To this day I still don't. I like to consider myself a "well rounded person", as my mother would say. I am a little bit of everything, which is why I never fit into school cliques. I had to get to a point with myself that I was okay with the fact that I didn't fit in and wouldn't look down upon myself because I didn't.

If we all conform to the standards and guidelines set before us, we will never grow. We will never think outside of the box. We may never even realize there is a box. For any ripple to occur that disrupts the flow of things there has to be at least one person who decided that they are not willing to conform. The more people that are willing to realize the box and step outside the stronger our society will become. Only your views matter. Not your parents, nor your friends, nor your teachers... Just yours. Don't conform.
